Android fresh install; no audio after updating all Google apps

I've got a HTC One M7 - brand new.

Before I link my Google account - all is well. When I then link my Google account and update the apps that I personally downloaded, all is well.

When I then mass update ALL the default installed apps I then do not have any audio for calls - people can't hear me and I cannot hear them. I can make the calls, and see the call duration etc, but that's all.

What on earth is going on? What could I do?
