Turning off SIM card

I'm trying to develop a personal app that deactivates a lot of stuff like WIFI, SIM cards, reduce screen brightness, to prolong battery life, but am stuck with deactivating the SIM card. I've looked for documentation on the API functions and Android services, to see if I could maybe invoke one with "service call", but found nothing.

Is there any way to disable a SIM card, like you do when you go to Settings->SIM Management and use the slider, through Java?
