Swapping Android S3 phones

My S3 has a broken screen. The phone is still fully functional except for the camera flash. A friend gave me his old S3 to use. Can I merely swap the Sim cards to get the friend's phone to operate with my phone number? I also want to move my contacts and pictures from the old phone to the friend's phone. I have figured out how to copy the pictures to a micro SD card, but I haven't figured out the contacts.
