Split up compile proccess

My computer keeps hanging when compiling due to full memory, I was wondering if I can split the compile process of the ROM into sperate process's (more than just the kernel seperately) and then is there a command to package everything in the out directory or must I do it manually? I'm compiling lollipop for cyanogenmod. I've had successful builds but more than half the time it will make my PC hang until the process is killed. Please don't answer with "use a lower -j" or similar. Thanks!
