I'm helping a friend out, and she wanted to send a text message without her cell phone number showing up in the end message. We never found a way to do this.
Checking the Google Voice app (which I use) we found that hers (under About in Settings) had only "Legal Information" - in my Google Voice app I have "Legal Information", "My Phone Number", and "Build Number."
We never were able to find a way to use the Google Voice app or the Hangouts app to allow her to send text messages which do not contain the carrier cell phone number.
Why is this? Is this possible?
A major difference between us is I've been using the service since it was called Grand Central; she signed up within the last day or so.
Switching to a different service made all her troubles go away - but I'm still hopeful that there is a resolution with Google Voice somehow.
