Backend Android app?

I would like to build my first native app for Android. I think I have a pretty good idea and I want to realize it. I just started with learning Java but it goes pretty well (having experience in programming with PHP, JavaScript and Python).

But now I'm thinking of the back-end. Ofcourse I can try to connect with a PostgreSQL database and scale it if necassary. But it would be nice if there's something that's able to scale automatically, without configuring my own servers etc.

Now I came accross https://parse.com/. Anyone who has experience with Parse? Or experience with service almost the same like Parse?

Or do you all just configure and use your own back-end?
