HTC Desire X switches on random applications when WIFI switched off
My HTC desire switches on random applications like weather accu, torch etc. when I switch off Wi-fi.
Any idea why is this happening? I have tried factory reset and no luck - the problem still occurs.
is there a way to reverse whatever happened to my phone today?
I went snow shoeing today. Before setting out I turned off my phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon. After snowshoeing I turned it back on and everything was gone. it looks like it did some kind of reset:
- All of my apps were gone.
- my launcher was gone.
- my pictured were gone.
- my accounts were gone
- Everything was in Vietnamese
The only things preserved were my contacts. This might be because I use Backup Assistant Plus.
Does anyone have any idea what happened and if I can reverse it?
How to a "Service" in background can catch up event the applicaton has been installed

- My application has a widget and also a service be run background.
- The widget was displayed on the screen.
- Then end user installs the new application from Play Store (The widget and new short-cut is same screen area).

I've been trying to customize my android. Found a cool set of buttons but one problem. The app store says it is "not available in (my) country" I have tried spoofing the GPS but that did not work. Does anyone have an idea about how to spoof cell towers or IP addresses to get around the lock out?
How to Export Client Certificate from Firefox for Android on non-rooted device
I had a website install a client certificate into my Firefox browser (v35.0.1) on my tablet and I want to export and backup the certificate. I've found out after the fact that Firefox on android doesn't actually provide any native mechanisms for managing the certificate store (and does not integrate with the Android native certificate store). Additionally, all Firefox add-ons I've found are out of date, preventing them from being installed.
I found an article here that suggests copying the cert9.db and key4.db files to PC and using a third-party application to extract the certificate and key, however this device is not rooted and the file browsers I've tried do not allow browsing the true root filesystem. As a workaround, I tried putting the path to the files in Firefox to download them to somewhere more accessible, however Firefox refuses to download them (though of note: it does see the files.
Is there any other way to access the certificate store in Firefox for Android or retrieve the cert/key db files from which I can extract the certificate?
Bridge Wi-Fi through router > Galaxy S3 > desktop Windows
I'm usually hooked up to a wall Ethernet port on my PC, but I'm away for a little over a week now and I only have access to Wi-Fi. The signal is just barely out of range. I can use Skype and whatnot with my poor connection, but can't browse the web.
I set up a mobile hotspot on my S3 and have a speed of roughly 5 Mbps (download), so that's wonderful, but I figure I'll run out of data quickly (I've already used 40 MB in the past minute) -- I'm unable to connect to Wi-Fi while my phone is a hotspot, so I don't believe I can continue using the hotspot without running out of data if it's going solely off of my data plan.
My phone has a better wireless card than my desktop, and can browse the web, etc perfectly -- since my phone has such a good connection, I figure I can bridge the connection from it to my PC and not have to use up my data plan. While researching why I couldn't use Wi-Fi and the hotspot at the same time, it turned out that since my phone only had one Wi-Fi antenna it couldn't handle both of them at the same time. I'm not sure if bridging the connection from my phone to my computer would require more than one -- maybe it will, maybe it won't. Is this possible?

Turn your android device to a wireless set?
I would like to know whether there is any app to share audio from an android device to a pc as well as to other android devices connected to the same WLAN network. So that people can communicate to others like using a wireless set without using any mobile network. I know there will be a limit for the range of this setup, but it's not a problem. Also, I never mind installing any software for this purpose in the pc.

I have a very old Android tablet that I barely use.
It's a Zipy MID Fun (8GB) with 256MB RAM DDR2, an old Rockchip at 660MHz with a DPS 600MHz runnind Android 2.1. The wireless module is a very weak IEEE 802.11G module.
Since my other tablet broke (someone decided that it was a nice doormat), I decided to use this one as a 100% VNC client.
The problem is that this is SO SLOW it is almost unusable. Using 256 colors is the only way to use it somewhat properly.
The VNC Server is a Windows 8.1 computer, which is connected over cable.
What should I do to use this tablet as a decent VNC client?
(RDP is also fine, if it is possible with such an old tablet)

Ubuntu hotspot not detected by android
Ubuntu provides a "Use as Hotspot..." option in network settings. It works on Apple/iOS but, unfortunately, Android cannot access/see it.

2-step authentication calling me in Thai. I don't speak Thai. WTF!
I setup google 2-step authentication through Google Apps.
I linked my Skype number by Voice instead of SMS. SMS wasn't going through. It's a US number.
I'm trying to login on my Android phone in Thailand. I bought the phone in Thailand with a Thai sim. I set the Android language to English.
2-step is calling me and giving the number in Thai. I don't speak Thai.
There's no obvious setting to change the language of "Google sign-in" app on the phone.
I looked in the Domain Admin app and didn't see a setting to change the language. It's pretty frustrating.
Any suggestions?

Can't connect to pc
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 Lte running android 4.4.2 and a PC running windows 8.1.
For a while now I haven't been able to send files to my device. My PC sometimes looks like it recongnized a USB device connected but then nothing happens (I was able to exchange files between them once before, but now it's impossible). I have tried changing cables (cables work with other devices except mine), I've tried other PCs, but the same thing happens.
Does anyone know what might be the problem?

How to pipe output of dd to a computer via adb shell?
I've accidentally wiped my phone and lost all my photos. I'm going to try to run photorec on an image of my phone.
What I'd like to do is somehow something along these lines:
adb shell
dd if=/data of=/file/on/my/computer/not/on/phone
Is there any way to do this? I'm using a linux PC.
I saw this related question (Create a dd image of a Android 4.4.4 for forensics?) but it writes to the same device - my device is a nexus 6 so I don't have an sd card to write to (and doing so would likely over write the data I'm trying to recover)
Can I safely do a factory reset without losing root?
Sadly my quesiton isn't that simple. To make sure everyone unerstands I will explain as short but specific as possible:
Initial: stock state, not rooted, nothing special
- I updated my HTC One M8 to Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and noticed, that it drains my battery waaay faster than before and also lags pretty bad (almost every press of a button).
- I searched for fixes online but couldn't find anything that may work except for a factory reset. Since it's almost impossible to backup all apps including data without root (e.g. titanium backup) I thought I may as well root my device, so I'm prepared for future restores (as I found out it's particularly easy to root an htc device, I was relieved I'm a noob when it comes to rooting).
- I then did a factory reset and rooted my HTC One M8, installed SuperSU and all that stuff, you know.
- It actually ran faster than before the Android 5.0 Update and the battery drain also seemed to be OK.
This Monday I woke up to a completely depleted mobile data usage (had about 450MB left - all gone over night). I forgot to turn on WiFi as I went to sleep. Below is the data usage of that night. I set everything I can (Play Store Updates and HTC Backups, as far as I know) to WiFi only, because 1GB of monthly mobile data seldom is enough for me.
I contacted HTC Support Chat and that lady told me to go to Settings -> Apps -> Reset App settings and restart my phone by pushing VolumeDown + VolumeUp + Power Button. I did that and it seemed like my phone is as slow as before I did the factory reset.
- I still don't know why the heck my phone used so much mobile data that night. I just hope this won't happen again. If you know why or how to prevent this, feel free to tell me!
Now I'm here with a rooted HTC One M8 with Android 5.0.1 and the same problems as in the beginning of this nerve-racking process. I searched a lot for solutions of the battery drain after the Lollipop update, but couldn't find anything helpful.
So my question is Can I perform a factory reset without losing root? because that's what helped me in the beginning. But of course I would be very happy about solutions addressing the extreme battery drain and lags I'm experiencing.
In Settings -> Power consumption there (almost) always is Google Play Services at the top. I found some solutions on how to keep this from draining my battery all the time, but they include messing with more root apps and I'm not sure if my device will also run faster after doing that.
How do I access an attached thumb drive?
I've attached an external drive to my phone using a USB-OTG cable. I can open it in File Manager (v2.0.0), but when I go to /storage/usbdisk none of my files show up, and if I try to create a file it complains about needing elevated permissions. I've read online that I need to enable root access mode in File Manager's general settings, but there is no such setting on my device.

Block Image loading in any Android App
Q: How can I make sure that none of the android apps (installed) should be able to load any image(s) from Web?
Brief: Say I'm using 'Reddit News' and 'Reddit for Fun'. Although the latter allows no image loading for Reddit Entries, it doesn't control the images in links it open. The cost of having 3G connectivity is high in my country, or rather I cannot afford much of it, so image blocking is a must for me.
Note: 1) Device Rooted, so no issues for installing any app.
2) 'Adaway' installed but couldn't blacklist using regex(naive) expression.
3) Firefox and Chrome for Android has addons and extensions, so no worries at all about them.
Any idea(s) how to achieve this goal?

Only one page of widgets left: Where are the other pages gone?
I'm running Cyanogenmod 11 on a Galaxy Nexus. Today, with the same firwmare, all of a sudden, there's only a single page of widgets left: When I swipe left or right, there's the usual animation but I'm not moved to other pages.
Incidently, the screen only contains a single point:
I went through the menus in Settings, but found nothing that would look like an option to restrict the screen to a single page of widgets.
Has someone seen this before and knows what the problem is?

Laggy touch movement on a high end device
I'm using an Xperia Z1 Compact, and I've flashed Cyanogenmod on it, however, when I flash any non-stock ROMs on this phone, the sampling rate for touch movements is reduced to perhaps 20FPS, if that is an appropriate description. This is not to say that touches lag behind the finger when moving, instead it just moves at lower intervals.
I wonder if this is caused by an internal configuration file that handles touches/touch movement. Is there such a way to tweak the touch screen parameters to the effect of fixing this issue?
P.S. I have checked /system/usr/idc/clearpad.IDC and the contents appear to be the same as Sony's stock ROM
Home screen icons don't stay where I put them
When I drag an app icon for some apps to the home screen, soon afterward the icon disappears from the home screen. What can I do to fix this behaviour so the icon stays where it's put?
If it matters:
- The device is an HTC Incredible S
- The OS is Android 4.4.4, CyanogenMod 11, build Vivokat #10.27.
- The app in question is OsmAnd~.
This isn't about the app's or device's behaviour, though; it's about the Home Screen's behaviour in Android.
How can I diagnose what's causing the app icon to disappear, and get it to stay like other icons?
Not able to access 3g Data when no wifi connection
Since I updated to Lolipop on my Moto G, I cannot access internet when I am not logged into a wifi connection. Maps tells me that I'm offline, chrome tells me that I am offline.
I go in Settings/Data usage and toggle the Cellular Data and Cellular Data Limit switches, same results. Toggle back to normal, same result. Restart phone, same result. Check settings for individual applications, nothing changes.
Any Iddea of something i'm missing ?

Importing .csv into .db
Okay, I'm very new to this. I used aSQLiteManager from the Play Store to backup the contents of a database (Contents_Setup) of one of my apps, then I deleted this table. The backup was stored as a csv file. The app was reinstalled, so the contents of this table are empty now. I tried to import the csv file back into the table, but I get an error ...CSV Import Error: Length=1; Index=1. Now, I am not educated in SQLite, I actually just started reading a tutorial for beginners. I am using only my android tablet, no PC. Is there anyone who can advise me on how to handle this error?
Why do my headphones stop working on my LG android?
About yesterday, my headphones randomly started pausing my music. At first, I thought it was my headphones which are Apple ipod/iPhone 5 headphones that I've had for a a few months from an old iphone, so I tried another pair that are brand new and only used once or twice and the sane thing happend. It would pause the music and it didn't show the headphone icon at the top like it should on both pairs. And then when I'd go to my music player to start up the song it would play the music through my phone speakers when the headphones were plugged in!! Plz help!

Titanium Backup made Soft Button Bar black
I just wanted to try Titanium Backup on my rooted Nexus 4 (Android 5.0.1), so I installed the free version from the Play Store. Then I chose "Batch" to back up, connected my phone to the charger and turned the display of. After the backup had finished, the first thing I noticed was that my wallpaper was gone and the second thing I noticed was that my soft button bar now is black. Ok, setting the wallpaper again is a matter of seconds. However, I didn't figure out how to restore the soft button bar. Can you help me?
I of course rebooted the device to find out if that helps and switched from Nova Launcher to the stock launcher.

I am building an android music player that can stream all the sound generated by my app to an external IP rather than playing it to speaker/headset over wifi.
Basically I want to route all the sound output of my app to an external IP rather than phone's speaker, bluetooth speaker or earphones.
I have read about udp , upnp and rtp. Help me figure out which class I should use, i shall only be streaming audio (locally stored or from other providers as spotify or pandora).

Ok, there are dupplicates of this post. I've seen them, I've read them, and they didn't help. I could perfectly install apps until I tried to update SnapLock through their own app. Not enough space error. Ok. I deleted a couple of things, tried again. Nothing. More than 1 GB of free space on my internal storage and around 10 in my SD card. I uninstalled SnapLock and tried to reinsatall it through Google Play, it didn't work, I downloaded the .apk, it didn't work either. The worst is that the SnapLock apk file is like 10 MB the largst and I can download and install stuff 20MB large without any issues. I don't really know if I have to contact the app developpers for this, but still. Any help would be apreciated.

Sort by contacts surname and hide picture box from stock app (replacement?)
I have an Android 4.4 smartphone (4.5" display) and I'm fairly happy with the stock contacts app - I've tried a couple other, but they add too many things for which I don't feel the need.
There are two things that I hate about the stock one though:
- Not having the option to sort contacts by surname
- Not having the option to hide the picture box from the list, wasting a lot of space (I'd rather see the preferred number instead)
Can't I find those options, or aren't they just there? Can you suggest any other streamlined app that has the above?
I already tried Contacts+ but it is one of those apps that add too much (I don't care whether my contacts have Facebook, Google+, whatever).

What does "Download GPS assisted data only over Wi-Fi networks" really mean?
Since I checked this option in Settings > Personal > Location, GPS finally works when no data connection is available, eg. when travelling in foreign countries. It's still slower than when a data connection is available, but at least, it does locate me when I'm standing in open skies.
However, I was wondering what this option really means: Does it mean that it will never use A-GPS to download data from the Net even when a data connection is available through GSM *?
IOW, if I'm travelling in my country where a GSM data connection is available, will Android download A-GPS data to speed things up?

How to install apps directly on SD card (HTC Wildfire S)
I have an old HTC Wildfire S recently updated with CM version 11. I am surprised to see how fast the phone is, and how this new system works very well.
Unfortunately, I have a severe problem due to the insufficient internal memory. I can actually move apps from my phone to the external SD, but this procedure doesn't allow to install huge apps. The point is that you have to install firstly on the phone, and only then you are allowed to move to the SD card - clearly if the phone hasn't enough memory just since the first step, there's nothing to do.
My answer is: how can I install apps directly on my SD card? I found A LOT of material googling, but all the articles seem confusing and not so safe. I have chosen to ask here just to be surer to obtain a wise answer.

playstore won't download or update apps
I am using samsung galexy duos gt i8262. yesterday I encounter this strange problem. whenever I dowonload or update an app from playstore it only shows downloading bar and the app won't download in a century. things which I have done already done. 1. clearing cache/data playstore and play services 2. deleting google account 3. enabled download manager 4. rooted phone and edited hosts file by inserting # in the start of 2nd line 5. reset the phone twice. 6. checked phone date and time. in short I employed every possible solution but still no luck. any othr solutions?

Cant download apps on my new huawei
I just bought my new huawei model H30-U10 I have synchronized my gmail account and whenever I try to download any app, the download bar keeps loading forever and doesn't even throw any error I am not using SD card because its internal memory is 8gb already My time and date are ok I am not using sim card, could this be issue? Where does music downloaded from Google Play go on my phone?
New Nexus 6 with Lollipop. I downloaded some music from Google Play, but cannot for the life of me find where it is on the phone. I've searched through the entire thing using Astro, and can't find my music. (The Play app sees it, but I want to make one of my songs a ringtone, and apparently with Lollipop, you need to copy your file into a certain location for it to be available.)
Missing album tags make Lollipop's stock music player group all songs into the same album and attribute the same album art to all tracks
I have a bunch of tracks all with empty album tags. This makes the stock Lollipop player group all these songs under one album called "music" and attribute the same album cover (taken from one of these tracks) to the rest of the tracks, even though they have completely different cover art and values under artist and title.
Retagging all my music is out of the question. Is there a way to stop it from scanning the album art/album tag at all, since I actually couldn't care less about the album art and it's just frustrating to see unrelated tracks grouped together?

I just barely bought my HTC Desire phone about a few days ago. The internal storage was low. However, with only a few days passing, and only about three of my personal apps downloaded and I would hook it up to my computer for a charge, it would show that my internal storage is full and my SD card is practically empty. I deleted the apps that were preinstalled on my phone that I do not want. That did not even really help. So I tried to see if I could move my apps over to my SD card. It will not allow me to do so. Then I disabled some apps hoping that would do it as well. My internal storage is still fully taken up and I am not pleased with this problem at all. What can I do to get my internal storage back into the "blue zone and out of the "red zone"? Thank you.
Texts from I Phones come in as a download?
On several occasions recently my sister-in-law (using an I Phone)sent text messages to multiple phones at one time. I do receive the texts but they come in as a download. My phone will not download the file. I am using a BLU Neo4.5 using Consumer Cellular as my Carrier. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get these downloads to work on my phone? This is believe it or not my first Smart Phone.

I downloaded andro shredder on my phone so i can erase my internal storage and it told me what there was to erase which was /mnt/sdcard and after if finished it said wiping successful and i would really like to know if that did the job of clearing any previously deleted things such as photos and apps? Nexus 5 isn't recognized by USB
I just tried to connect my Nexus 5 to my Computer via USB but it does not show up anywhere. There is no sound of a device connecting and the Device Manager doesn't list a new device when I plug it in. MTP and USB Debugging are enabled. The cable I'm using it not the original one, but was advertised as a charger + data cable. I've tried connecting my device to both my PC and Laptop, but neither shows anything, but the device starts recharging as soon as I plug it in.
Anything I could've missed? Drivers? Settings?

I'm using genymotion for my app tests. In my app, I'm fetching the GSF ID to create a unique identifier, as I understand it's a more universal way and more bullet-proof way to generate uniqueness.
Is there a way to change on genymotion the GSF ID?
Selecting text from comments in Youtube pages on Firefox for Android does not work
On a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (not 2014 version), run Firefox for Android. Navigate to
Scroll down the page until you see some comment text. Then use the stylus to select some text. You can't. I expected to hold down the stylus on a word and see the highlighting markers there, but nothing happens.
This works under the stock browser on this tablet.
Is this more likely to be a bug in Firefox for Android or a tablet firmware issue? The answer will give me guidance as to which party to file this to next.

Can not install substrate on emulator
I'm trying to install cydia substrate on emulator, when I try to link substrate files I got multiple errors,
Then I replaced /system/xbin/su with a suid-ed /system/bin/sh file and disabled SELinux with setenforce command.

My device has no power button so can only be turned off at the mains. Will this cause damage?
It is a rooted Android TV box. If I turn it off using an app, it effectively becomes a restart becomes it comes back on immediately if power is attached. I am worried I am going to damage the device (e.g corrupt files in the flash memory etc) if I keep turning it off at the mains.
Lollipop on Samsung Galaxy S5 G900H
I'm new to Android (from Blackberry ... I know, quite an upgrade). I want to upgrade my new S5 H-variant to Lollipop. I do not really NEED root (yet) but I'm interested in doing it. I would like not to void my warranty in an obvious way if it can be helped i.e. Knox warranty e-fuse/flag.
I HAVE:
- Model: Samsung Galaxy S5 G900H (International Exynos Octa-core model)
- Android version: 4.4.2
- Baseband version: G900HXXU1ANH1
- Kernel version: 3.10.9-2417570
- Root: No
- Knox Warranty flag: 0

I WANT:
- Android version: 5.0 Lollipop (preferably lacking as much bloatware as possible)

- Knox Warranty flag: 0 (if possible but not 100% necessary)
I have tried following this guide, on 2 different Windows 7 machines, with Odin 3.7 and Odin 3.9, with different USB cables - the Samsung one, an HTC one, and a USB 3.0 one.
I have also tried using towelroot to root it first, and installed and ran it fine, but it informed me that my phone is not supported when I tried to "make it ra1n".
My biggest stumbling block is that Odin does not pick up the phone when it is in Download (or Bootloader) mode. It comes up as "Added" when the phone is on normally. It seems like the most likely thing is that my drivers are wrong, but I have tried installing Kies on the one machine (which supposedly comes with the correct drivers) and I have tried installing the drivers manually on the other, Kies-less machine. I then swapped machines.
I apologise I'm too noob to be able to extrapolate from current answers how to upgrade my particular model. Can anyone help?
What is a cops.log file?
Suddenly my internal storage was totally full. Many things didn't work anymore in my phone including wifi and my launcher (even the option in the settings disappeared). Some apps crashed also.
So I looked for a solution for that and found a really helpful article. It suggests to move files to sd card and remove unnecessary files, including logs. Manually looking for log files did not yield many results. After performing a search (with ES file explorer) I came accross a cops.log file of 580mb. Since I only have 1.2GB of internal storage available that is a really significant chunk of space being occupied by a log file. I moved it to SD card to be sure and deleted it from the internal storage, giving me roughly 600mb of free space.
I have no idea where this file came from or what it is used for. Also that suspicious name makes me even more curious. What is the cops.log file and how did it get there/what is it used for. Why did it suddenly fill up so fast.
I am using a Samsung Galaxy Ace II GT-I8160, rooted, recently (a few weeks ago) flashed to Resurrection Remix. Still a low number of apps installed.
Google Calendar sync works only when Google Calendar app is uninstalled
I couldn't get Google Calendar to sync on my Galaxy S3 (with web version of Google Calendar). I did all things recommended on this help page but it didn't help. I also tried removing Google account from the phone and adding it again.
However, during one of the reinstalls (as recommended in Google help page) I suddenly got a notification about an event in my calendar that was created in the web version. The sync worked perfectly fine when the Google Calendar App was removed from my phone. When "Google Calendar App" was uninstalled the pre-installed "S Planner" showed me the notification because the sync kicked in.
I rechecked it both ways from Android app to the web version and vice versa.
I prefer Google Calendar app to "S Planner" but this issue renders Google Calendar app unusable.
I also sent feedback message from the app.
Edit to add: it worked fine until one of the updates of Google Calendar.
Update: user RossC suggested to disable S Planner and test sync, but unfortunately I can't disable it (see screenshot). Disabling related applications (with words calendar, samsung and sync in the title) did not help.
why can't i move certain apps from sd card to internal memory
Why are some apps i download and install saving to sd card instead of internal memory? I have more space on internal than sd card and it won't let me move some apps to internal memory.

Can't flash OTA file using TeamWin Recovery on HTC One
I have HTC One, with custom recovery, bootloader unlocked, and rooted.
I got the OTA by from Settings - Software Update. After downloading, I wanted to flash the ZIP file in Recovery mode. But when I want to flash that, after 5 or 6 seconds, it says failed because MD5 can't be founded. I already downloaded this file 2 times because I thought the file has problem, but the file seems to be okay.
What should I do?

Lollipop update on MotoG causing no service for sim card
I was using Moto G(1st gen) phone for the past 1 year. I was using 2 sims and I didnt face any problem for 1 year. After getting lollipop update, I frequently get 'no service' for one of my sim. Initially I used to reboot the phone and it used to work. But nowadays, the issue is coming up frequently and doesnt always work with rebooting.

RIngtone shortened with lollipop
Having issue since update to Lollipop. Samsung S5. When phone rings, sound comes on for 1 second, off for 3, one for 1, off for 3. This happens with Zedge and system ringtones. I've: changed ringtone to one from the system. Checked settings til I'm almost blue in the face. Thought it might have something to do with motions, but no. any suggestions?
How can I manually set screen orientation and determine why auto-rotate is not working?
Nexus 7 (2013 with lollipop) will no longer auto-rotate. it appears as though it may be a hardware problem, because if I try to play a a driving game that uses the orientation sensors it constantly tries to turn left.
I have tried:
- Rebooting
- Rebooting into safe mode
- Running Check My Android and confirming that all the gyroscope sensors are detected and it is able to detect motion of the tablet, I just don't know how to tell if the readings it gives me are correct.
- Toggling auto-rotate settings with reboots in between.
I have 2 questions:
- How can I confirm that this is a hardware problem?
- Is there a way to manually set orientation until I can get it fixed?

How to display Android Screen (5.0+) to my Mac OS X Laptop?
This seems similar to several other questions here, but the other questions are outdated. In Android 5.0 there is a native screen casting button (Cast) on the notification drawer for us to cast the screen to a Chromecast.
Is it possible to make our laptop (Mac OS X or otherwise) act as a Chromecast display so that we can press the Cast button on the Android and the screen is shown on the laptop?
I tried leapcast but the Android device does not seem to detect it.
Frequency band mofications for Samsung Galaxy S4
I recently purchased a used, unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M. The phones native bands don't include the 1700/2100 AWS required by the cell phone provider (WIND mobile). However, the phone is able to get both talk and data as desired. The previous owner told me that he modified the phone to allow these bands.

Why do rom makers have to tailor their roms to different devices
I don't get it, why is it that you can install a desktop os such as ubuntu on any mouse and keyboard computer but on android you have to wait for the rom makers to create a version of their rom that it tailored to your device?
Android graphics and layout copyright
I couldn't find an answer anywhere and the google play documentation is not specific enough for me to be sure about this. I was asking myself if android applications graphics, I.E, the way the items in the layout are placed, the combinations of colors used. etc are subject to copyright. I am building an application that resembles an already existing application. It's not a 100% same copy but some items are layed out in the same way i want to be sure that my application won't get thrown off google play once i publish. Unrooted Shield Tablet bootloops after 2.2.1 OTA
My brother has an NVIDIA Shield Tablet. He downloaded the 2.2.1 update (which just came out today). He didn't notice any errors during installation, but now he can't get it to boot into the full system. It's been sitting here bootlooping for at least 5-10 minutes. Bootloader and recovery are still accessible.
We've tried clearing the cache, but it took forever and didn't help anything. Is there any way to fix this without doing a factory reset or unlocking the bootloader? Or am I asking something impossible?

Can I safely do a factory reset without losing root?
Sadly my quesiton isn't that simple. To make sure everyone unerstands I will explain as short but specific as possible:
Initial: stock state, not rooted, nothing special
- I updated my HTC One M8 to Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and noticed, that it drains my battery waaay faster than before and also lags pretty bad (almost every press of a button).
- I searched for fixes online but couldn't find anything that may work except for a factory reset. Since it's almost impossible to backup all apps including data without root (e.g. titanium backup) I thought I may as well root my device, so I'm prepared for future restores (as I found out it's particularly easy to root an htc device, I was relieved I'm a noob when it comes to rooting).
- I then did a factory reset and rooted my HTC One M8, installed SuperSU and all that stuff, you know.
- It actually ran faster than before the Android 5.0 Update and the battery drain also seemed to be OK.
This Monday I woke up to a completely depleted mobile data usage (had about 450MB left - all gone over night). I forgot to turn on WiFi as I went to sleep. Below is the data usage of that night. I set everything I can (Play Store Updates and HTC Backups, as far as I know) to WiFi only, because 1GB of monthly mobile data seldom is enough for me.
I contacted HTC Support Chat and that lady told me to go to Settings -> Apps -> Reset App settings and restart my phone by pushing VolumeDown + VolumeUp + Power Button. I did that and it seemed like my phone is as slow as before I did the factory reset.
- I still don't know why the heck my phone used so much mobile data that night. I just hope this won't happen again. If you know why or how to prevent this, feel free to tell me!
Now I'm here with a rooted HTC One M8 with Android 5.0.1 and the same problems as in the beginning of this nerve-racking process. I searched a lot for solutions of the battery drain after the Lollipop update, but couldn't find anything helpful.
So my question is Can I perform a factory reset without losing root? because that's what helped me in the beginning. But of course I would be very happy about solutions addressing the extreme battery drain and lags I'm experiencing.
In Settings -> Power consumption there (almost) always is Google Play Services at the top. I found some solutions on how to keep this from draining my battery all the time, but they include messing with more root apps and I'm not sure if my device will also run faster after doing that.
samsung note 2 data recovery
My Samsung note 2 is stuck in a boot loop, I know it can be easily fixed by factory reset, but is there anyway I can get my pictures off of the phone? I'm not fussed about the phone, just the pictures. I didn't have them backed up or on an sd card. I can get into recovery mode and have done cache(?) But its made no difference. Iv also plugged into the computer but its not coming up? Is there any other way just to recover the pictures please?

Wi-Fi antenna seems to work when the device is off
When I was looking at battery statistics I've found something strange: the bar showing wether a component is running or not indicates that wifi were active when I took off my phone. Is this a bug? I have a Google Nexus 5 with standard Android 5 on it.

How to encrypt (decode) my photograps from the SD card
I've just after having my phone crash. It's a Samsung galaxy S 3. It went down suddenly, so I had to take my SD card out and bring it to fix it. After I got it back and put my SD card back into it, I've realized that the data which was coded in my SD card (photos of my son) are unavailable to watch. The file is broken. As I understand it is still coded. So I tried to code my phone again with the same pasword, but it gave no use. Can you help me with this. Those fotos are very dear to me.

HTC One [M7] Lollipop update fails
I tried to update my HTC One [m7] unlocked/international to the new Android Lollipop with the OTA update that got pushed yesterday. However, it keeps failing. My HTC is rooted, and is currently running 6.12.161.9 (trying to update to 7.18.616.2). It is S-ON and has an hboot 1.57. Now, the problem keeps appearing in the following way: (I have the correct stock recovery on the phone) The phone starts the update process normaly. It goes to the recovery and the progress bar starts to move. However as soon as it reaches about 1/4 of its way (always the same), it stops the installation and returns to the recovery title screen (the red triangle and exclamation mark). When I then press volume up and power button to see the recovery menu, it gives me the following readout at the bottom on the console: Code:

It gives me this readout every time, and the only difference in expectation and device, is this: The update expects 366813.9, the device has 366813.5. What does this difference mean? What is .9 and what is .5, and how can I fix this?

Text to speech: Unable to switch to UK English
My phone (Fairphone) does not have the 'English (UK)' locale, only the US one. I recently discovered how to download custom voices for Google text-to-speech ('Install voice data' from settings) and have downloaded a UK English voice to replace the default American voice, which I find incredibly irritating (sorry, Americans!). Unfortunately, even though I have downloaded the voice data, I still seem unable to switch to the new voice, as 'English (UK)' is still not an option when visiting TTS's 'Language' menu. Am I missing something here? How do I make my phone speak to me in my native language? (My Android version is 4.2.2)
Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 root knox?
I see directions for carrier based versions of the galaxy tablet, but none seem to mention the particular one that I have(a wifi only sm-t230nu). they also mention Knox, but I cannot tell if it is installed by default on this model. if I root/flash this type of tablet, will it trigger this Knox and render it serviceable or is that a feature specific to certain types of tablets?

Updating the system app "messages" on 4.2.2
On Aptoide there was an update for the system SMS app Messages. I updated,and it continually crashed so I uninstalled the updates and reverted to factory. It is now at the bottom of the Settings / Applications list with the description "uninstalled" yet leaves no way to install it. Can it be recovered? Phone is a clone of Samsung SM-G9006v.

Changing the default ports for an application
Here's the context : I have to use a public wifi service that blocks a number of ports related to online games(clash of clans mostly). On a pc, that would'nt be a problem to get around, on a phone tought, I'm not so sure.
Thus I have two actual questions :
1) Could I simply change the default port of my application to one that would not be censored and work with said application?
2) Would you know of any other work around that would make this work, even if said work around are'nt ports related?

Can't transfer files because of locked and broken screen
I broke the screen of my phone (SAMSUNG DUOS). Like you can really see the shatter marks on it. But the screen became unresponsive. My problem is that, when I connect it to my computer to recover my files, I cannot access them because my phone is locked. And since the glass is broken and unresponsive, I cannot unlock it.

My galaxy s3 mini will not restart
A few days ago my s3 mini turned itself off and it won't restart. I have charged and changed batteries but nothing happens. I have tried several times but the screen just does not come on
Battery percentage shown in lockscreen while charging is incorrect
I have a Samsung Galaxy S-III (rooted & running 4.4.4) with a peculiar problem.
According to the Notification Bar toggles, the battery percentage is 82%. The same is shown in Settings > Battery.
However, when I plug it in for charging, it shows "Charging, 49%". After some time on the power, when the actual percentage was 99%, the lockscreen showed 69%. According to the custom Kernel, the battery percentage in the notification bar and settings is correct. Therefore, it must be something to do with the lockscreen widget.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help is appreciated.

I have LG F160L Korean mobile it was working fine but 5 days ago some app was updated from google play store automatically then suddenly com.google.android.gsf app starting crashed. Not remember gsf or fgsf but it is confirmed it was google android app. Now I don't know it was due to my installed app when it was updated or some thing else. I clicked many times OK but it does not stop. I restarted my phone but it never starts Android OS. When my phone was OK I check in Settings -> About Phone -> model it shows me F160K but on phone back after cover removing it is written F160L.
My Phone Current Condition:

What I have tried
I have tried Automatically Flashing the Latest Stock Firmware via the LGMobile Support Tool that downloads firmware and install but when S/W upgrading is in progress it stops after 10% :(
I have tried to install ROM from KDZ flasher it gives error after iPram = 10 KDZ downloaded from lg-phone-firmware dot com for LG F160L :(
I have tried by downloaded zip file for LG F160L and copying in SD Card and by going inside ClockworkMod after inserting SD Card in phone then install from External SD Card by this method it installs successfully but phone is still in that condition that It was before installing. I tried wipe data, cache and dalvik after installing from SD Card as well :crying:
I actully 4 times wiped data, cache, dalvik
I also did Hard Reset by press this buttom combination Volume Down + Home + Power
There is also one strange thing when I tries to download driver on Windows 7 by connecting phone with PC in Download Mode and in Recovery Mode it installed correct drivers But when I tries to download driver in ClockworkMod it starts installing LG F200L Drivers. :eek:
I tried to wipe recovery but could't wipe because I can't see my device in when I run this command fastboot devices

ADB is working, fastboot is not (HTC Desire Z)
The adb devices command is working for me, the fastboot devices command is not (Mac OS X Mavericks, SDK downloaded yesterday, phone is a HTC Desire Z):

So fastboot doesn't list devices, whatever I try (sudo, or specifying -i and -p options), while ADB works just fine. I found vendor and product IDs via Mac OS X system information. ADB working seems to indicate that communication between my laptop and the phone does work fine.
How can I get fastboot to work?

Ubuntu provides a "Use as Hotspot..." option in network settings. It works on Apple/iOS but, unfortunately, Android cannot access/see it.

Hide the Navigation Bar permanently on certain Activity under Android 4.2.2 (framework editable if necessary)
Is it possible to permanently hide Navigation Bar on certain Activity under Android 4.2.2(Jelly Bean)?
Please note that I have a custom android device and can modify its framework source if necessary.
Using Immersive mode under Android 4.4+ could be a solution in my opinion but that is not the option that I can have.
I have tried it with the following code snippet. but once I touch the screen, the nav bar shows up and will not disappear even I call SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_HIDE_NAVIGATION.

Why can't I use wifi on my android phone (Moto G Lolipop) even though it works perfect on my laptop?
So I've been facing this problem lately, earlier the wifi worked perfect on both my laptop and my phone but suddenly it has stopped working on my phone (an exclamation mark is displayed near the wifi signal on my phone).
Sometimes when I use the 'forget wifi option' on the phone and retype the password, it is able to connect whatsapp to the internet but nothing else. (the exclamation mark is still displayed near the wifi signal though. ) I face a similar problem with another android phone (Samsung S III neo)
This problem has emerged lately even though I've not changed any settings or so of the wifi. I've tried switching on/off both the modem and the phone but with no luck. It works perfectly fine with the laptop but not on the phone (even though I'm a foot away from the modem)

How to identify apps generating alarm
I have a problem which is driving me nuts. I have installed several clock and alarm apps over time, and gotten rid of most of them. Now, at nearly random times -- some look familiar as old alarms I set at one point -- the alarm will sound. It is the "default alarm." I have removed most of the alarm products, and left only the original "Clock" and "Night Clock." I have removed all alarms from both programs, and also changed the alarm sound. But the default still sounds, at various times, and I either get woken up randomly, or shut off the sound, and miss any calls, or alarms I wish to set.
How can I tell which app is "playing" the default sound? Alternatively, how can I just make it stop, without knowing what was wrong? Uh, help, please.
Why isn't Android using the IPSec VPN for browsing etc.?
I have configured IPSec VPN using a PSK to connect to my home network using the default built-in VPN settings in Android 5 on my Nexus 5. It connects correctly, but most apps don't use the connection for some reason.
For example, I cannot use either Chrome or Firefox to browse web sites hosted in the remote network. Chrome spends a long time as if it's going to load, but never does. Firefox immediately errors out saying it can't find the server. In fact, they can't load any site (like google.com etc.) while the VPN connection is established.
However, I can ping the very same host names from the phone's terminal and I can telnet to port 80 and get back a response to those same hosts when I use a telnet app, so clearly some apps are picking it up correctly.
Why isn't Firefox or Chrome able to connect to anything?
Home screen icons don't stay where I put them
When I drag an app icon for some apps to the home screen, soon afterward the icon disappears. What can I do to fix this behaviour so the icon stays where it's put?
If it matters:
- The device is an HTC Incredible S
- The OS is Android 4.4.4, CyanogenMod 11, build Vivokat #10.27.
- The app in question is OsmAnd~.
This isn't about the app's or device's behaviour, though; it's about the Home Screen's behaviour in Android.

Screenshots often come out corrupted
I have a first generation Moto G (XT1033) with Android 5.0.
Often when taking screenshots, it gets stuck at the Screenshot is being saved message - then I have to forcefully close the System UI process if I want it to go away.
And the final file is corrupted (either the PNG file will not open on a PC or, for image viewers that are more tolerant to broken files, it will be black except for a small portion of the image). For an example:
See that the image is correct up to a point. It seems as if the file was closed before the system finished writing to it.
What can be causing this problem?
Missing album tags makes lollipop's music player gorup all songs into the same album and attribute the same album art to all tracks
I have a bunch of tracks all with empty album tags. This makes the stock lollipop player group all these songs under one album called "music" and attribute the same album cover (taken from one of these tracks) to the rest of the tracks even though they have completely different cover art and values under artist and title.
Retagging all my music is out of the question. Is there a non-retard music player which doesn't mindlessly attribute one value to multiple tracks? Or is there a way to stop it from scanning the album art/album tag at all, since I actually couldn't care less about the album art and it's just frustrating to see unrelated tracks grouped together?
How do I manually control the Lock screen activation?
I want the lock screen function to activate immediately after pressing the power button (prefered) or other physical button, but only if I press that button. I don't want the lock screen to activate under any other circumstance, even if the display goes to screen/power saver mode. I know that I can set the time that it takes to activate the lock screen after the screen saver activates, but there is no "infinite" time among the options provided. Anyways that's not what I want, again to summarize I press the power button (or any other physical button), the lock screen activates instantly, I don't press the power button, lock screen never activates.
How can I do that?

What is the default browser of Android 5.0 and above?
Android devices used to have its stock web browser as its default browser, but nowadays, it is replaced by Chrome. And it is said that the default browser of Android 5.0 and above is going to be Chrome. Having said that, what happens if a phone with stock web browser is updated to Android 5.0? Is its stock web browser is deleted as well as replaced by Chrome? Or does it stay as its stock web browser even after the update? time of photo is wrong
After I took a photo with my Nexus 4, I clicked "details" and found out the taken day and time are wrong. Such as, it should be Feb 25, 2015 6:50PM, but it shows Feb 26, 2015 12:50:13AM. How should I fix it?

So I have been playing around with my android tablet and I have come to the realization I know just enough about what I am doing to be extremely dangerous, so I figured I should stop and get confirmation the path I am going down is sound
I (like many others) are running into internal memory issues and I am looking for a solution
My device has 500M of currently allocated to "internal memory" and 5G of internal NAND mounted to be the sdcard

All of this is internal memory, there is no external SD card installed. What my question is, is can I re-partition what is currently mounted as the sdcard into two partitions, one say 3G fat partition to continue to be my sdcard and another 2G ext partition
I'm not so crazy as to try and re-allocate the sdcard memory back to /data - I'd like to do all of this in place and not have to re-install anything (apart from the apps that I want to live on the "sdcard" of internal memory)
What I am trying to do is the internal memory equivalent of the two partitions on an external sdcard to use with link2sd
So question is, is it worth going down this road, or should I just stop now?
If the answer is, yes, it's do-able, then this is really where the "just enough knowledge to be dangerous" comes in...
looking at /etc/vold.fstab I got the following:

Is there any way to optimise google maps on Android?
Google Maps has become so slow on Android. I remember it used to be slick - and then probably sometime about a year or 2 ago, there was an update where they refreshed the look and combined the navigation app into it but it made the app really slow.
Loading up takes a couple of seconds. It would be really sluggish when typing in the address etc. eVerything just takes a little longer to load.
I have a flagship phone too (HTC M8) so there's no reason for it to be slow. IF you download Waze and compare it side by side, you can see how slow Google Maps has become.
MY question is, is there a way to optimise Google Maps so that it runs properly again? I know on the web version, there is a lite mode, is there such a thing on the Android version? Are there settings I can turn off? I don't really need a lot of the features like the 3d etc.
How do you separate from it's service provider?

How do I use ok Google with SoundHound?
If I ask "ok Google, what song is this?" it will tell me. However, I prefer to use SoundHound (because I have the paid version, and it stores my searches for later retrieval, and it links to spotify automatically).

I can't even seem to open the app." open SoundHound" yields a Google now result screen (where the first result is the app itself), but it does not open it - probably because the paid app name is "SoundHound infinity " (the symbol for infinity).
Network quality related battery discharge
I'm seeing a ridiculous battery drain on my Android/Samsung Galaxy S4 seeming to correlate with network traffic/signal change (see images below). Please keep in mind that the phone sits idly on my desk during the periods in question. It is stock (Android:4.4.2, Kernel: 3.4.0, Hardware: I545.07).
Has anyone had else already solved this issue?
Touch screen input only uses cursor coordinates
I have a ViewSonic touch screen display connected to an Android PC (kernel 3.0.36+) via HDMI & USB. The display shows everything correctly. Furthermore, the Linux kernel recognizes it.

The problem is that the screen, while I can touch anywhere, only registers the tap at the curser (wireless keyboard/mouse connected) location. If I move the cursor and tap anywhere on the screen, the new location receives the tap. If I remove the keyboard/mouse dongle the behavior remains, but now I can't move the cursor.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on here?
Frequent "Google sign-in" error
On my Android device, I have added three Google accounts, and probably on average of once (or even twice) per week, all three accounts will have "Google sign-in" errors to show me. Unlike the question about the persistent sign-in errors, once I enter the correct password, the authentication succeeds, and the error vanishes, only to appear a week later.
I am not doing anything to change any of these accounts, but I am just using them normally on other PCs and devices. None of my other Android devices seem to have this problem. I am not using two-factor authentication.

Can I change the *maximum* brightness from a system file/apk?
My old Asus TF101 has a faulty backlight and cuts out if it goes above (roughly) 60%. Therefore, I am hunting for a way to change (lower) the maximum brightness that the tablet will reach - both in auto brightness and by using the brightness slider.
Following this XDA thread http://ift.tt/1DRJJBn I've discovered where to change the auto brightness (the framework-res.apk) but wondered if anyone knew where the other brightness settings were stored?

lollipop update bugs
I have a moto g which I updated to lollipop (5.0.2) 2 days ago. Overall I like the new features but now I can't use a digital clock widget because it won't fit on the home screen unless it's landscape. I have a new Huawei Ascent Mate 2 4G Android phone and once in a while I get a message that some application tries to use bluetooth and make my phone discoverable for few hundred seconds. How do I trace which app is doing so and for what reason?
insufficient space?
I have an android next book tablet. I have a 16 GB SD card in it. Why is it still telling me I have insufficient space? How can I make things download straight to the SD card and not the internal storage?
GALAXY Y- RESTARTING AGAIN AND AGAIN AFTER FACTORY DATA RESET
i formatted my phone due to "low space in memory", after i click on factory data reset n then OK my phone is restarting over and over, i wait for 5 minutes but it was not turning on then i removed my bettry and i restart it but it was showing samsung's logo only i also tried to enter into recovery mode for factory reset by pressing volume down+power button, but same thing happened restarting again & again n showing Samsung logo please help me to fix this problem
How can I install an android system on my HP Touchpad webOS?
I have seen articles that others have installed an android system on an HP Touchpad running the webOS. Apparently, both systems are operational on the tablet. No where am I able to find how the android system is installed. Surely since HP has dropped their support for webOS there are many others like myself that want to install a current OS with apps readily available. Please help!

How does this dialer work?
When I press certain numbers on the dialer of my phone, names are brought up which don't make any sense. I've used T9 dialer, but I can't understand this. For example, typing 77 brings up names starting with Ap, and Dr. Typing 34 brings up names starting with He, and Ad. I just wanted to know if there's any reason for this.
The OS is Jelly Bean 4.1.1

If I want to customize the way an app looks is there a way to do so ? I am thinking in the lines of obtaining source code and editing.
Retrieve Number that couldn't be dialed
I have a problem I dialed a number but I had no network connection, so there was an error message. Later when I got a connection again I couldn't find the number in my list of recent calls or somewhere else. Is there a way to retrieve the number maybe with an error log or something?
