My device is an unrooted Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300 (Jelly Bean 4.3.0).
I am trying to root my device using Unified_Android_Toolkit_v1.3.3.exe AKA SkipSoft Toolkit and their web page lists my device as being supported. I have followed the rooting process but am stuck since once I install a custom recovery ROM and reboot the system my android device auto-restores the stock recovery ROM which means I am unable to boot the modified Custom Recovery supplied by SkipSoft. I have followed the instructions which suggest I use SkipSoft Toolkit to rename the Stock Recovery so that it cannot be found and so that it hence cannot be restored, but despite following the steps, this step fails for me. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Perhaps someone can help. The detailed procedure and screenshots pertaining to the procedure follow:
First I had to disconnect my Android device, uninstall Samsung Kies, and install the SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones v1.5.33.0 using SkipSoft Toolkit, then connect the Android device, install the adb drivers on the device, perform a backup of the Android device using SkipSoft Toolkit (this took quite a long time, but at the end I got the "Completed" message). Then I flashed a Custom Recovery (which is just an alternative pice of software that you can boot on the device). The Custom Recovery is flashed/installed via a built-in software tool called Odin which is what Samsung uses to flash their devices. SkipSoft toolkit automatically launches Odin to flash the Custom Recovery and places the device in Download Mode:
Press 3:
Press 5:
Press 2, press n:
Press y, Flash Custom Recovery with Odin, Exit
Press a (to abort)
Press 7:
Press 3:
Press Enter:
Press Enter, press 3, press y:
Use Odin:
Close Odin:
And finally, upon rebooting my device with VolumeUp+Power+Home, I still get the Android Stock Recovery program, instead of my Custom Recovery program.
Thanks to anyone who can help me with this isssue!
