Android Application for controlling appliances using wifi

We are making a project called "Home Automation using Wi-Fi based communication" by using Texas Instruments CC3200 LaunchPad (http://ift.tt/157ffxO).Details of the board are given in the above mentioned link.

The board has inbuilt Wi-Fi module. CC3200 Wi-Fi wireless microcontroller (MCU) in QFN package Industry’s first devices to be Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ at the chip level by the Wi-Fi Alliance™.

I want to develop an android application to control the apliances which will be connected to my board by wifi.Appliances which we are using are a simple bulb,CFL and a Fan. And also show the data collected by the board in our app for example power consumption,current,voltage.

I am from Embedded domain & don't have much knowledge about ** Android Application Development**. I just know the basics like what is in manifest file,xml file. I went through android docs and guess may be this API will be helpful but I am not so sure. http://ift.tt/1BvSXSV So if anyone can provide me some API's or the code or guide me. Thanks in advance.
