Mount SMB path similar to external_sd or internal_sd

I like using ES File Explorer and FX to list the contents of SMB paths. Unfortunately, to open a file on an SMB path it must be "downloaded" or copied to /mnt/internal_sd/Download, then opened from there. Why isn't there a way to open the file directly at the path where it already exists? I have to copy it, then go find it in the download folder and open it. If I change the file I must copy it back.

I work with paths all the time in Windows. Is there an equivalent with android? These android devices are so so cool and I enjoy playing with them. I have several android devices as thin clients, doing some stuff in android and some stuff in Windows via RDP. Is there a way to mount an SMB path and open files directly through the android OS?
