Why is it that different devices offer different methods of unlocking an encrypted device? E.g. my Samsung S4 only allows a password. But apparently many other devices allow a pin. And new nexuses allow a pattern.
Why would this be different? Wouldn't it be an OS level thing? Is it set by the manufacturer?
And, is there any way to find this out for a particular device without getting your hands on it? Looking for a new phone and its very hard to find out what options they support.
